This style frog is seen in Medieval illumination countless times, and is one of our personal favorites. It works on the same principle as those amazing tubular fingercuffs ~ the harder you pull or push, the tighter it grips. We use a double layer of heavy
bridle leather for the backing, and your scabbard is secured to this backing loop using soft
yet study straps. We've shown our dagger "peace tied" using the excess of this strapping. We don't claim the construction method to be historically accurate. What we've done is develop a simple and inexpensive way of recreating a classic Medieval look. Our design works well for broadswords worn at the hip and daggers of many styles. A minimum scabbard width of 1-1/4 inches is required for swords, 1" for daggers. Our standard frog fits belts up to 2 inches wide. Size adjustments for wider belts are available on request. Leather colors are black, chestnut, dark brown, or dark tan for the backing. All Medieval Sword and Dagger Frogs come with black X-strapping.

This sword frog is our original design, and has been one of our most popular frogs over the years. Based on our research and interpretation of styles in the late 14th and early 15th century, it will hold even the heaviest blade comfortably. Angled straps suspended from a large ring is one of the most practical frog designs we've encountered in our research, and it is equally appropriate for broadsword, small sword or rapier.
The difference between this fluid design and a rigid angled sword frog is beyond description. Suffice it to say that allowing your sword's own natural balance to work for you, frees you from vigilant awareness and positioning of your sword as you sit down to an ale, move through a crowded event, or kneel before royalty. In our testing, we've found this to be the most comfortable and versatile frog we've ever worn.

Each of our belt dagger frogs is custom-made to fit belt (or baldric) widths from 2 to 4 inches. The frog section is created from 8 to 10 oz leather. The sleeve section is a lighterweight, soft leather, securely hand-stitched to the frog and grommeted for extra durability. Your dagger frog wraps around and laces firmly onto your belt or baldric, and will not slide should you need to draw. Lace can be cut long on request to double as a peace-tie. |
